HURRICANE, Utah – Overnight snow and cold conditions in southern Utah necessitated canceling Tuesday’s final round of the BYU Spring Classic at Sand Hollow Golf Course.

Monday’s two-round, 36-hole totals will be the final results for the tournament.

Texas Tech and Iowa separated themselves from the field Monday and finished first and second respectively. The Red Raiders won their second straight tournament title with a three-round score of 5-over 291-290–581. They did so behind the performances of three top-10 individual finishers in Sofia Garcia (T3), Cecilie Nielsen (T6) and Gala Dumez (T6).

Iowa finished just three shots behind Texas Tech with an 8-over-par 288-296–584. Three Iowa golfers scored even or better in the first round, giving the Hawkeyes the best team single round of the tournament at 288.

Nevada, BYU and Oral Roberts rounded out the top 5 in a tight battle that had all three teams separated by just one shot a piece. The Wolfpack edged BYU for third at 296-304–600, the Cougars finished in fourth at 298-303–601 and Oral Roberts rounded out the top 5 at 307-295–602.

The third-place finish gives BYU its third-consecutive top-5 tournament finish and its best of the season.

BYU Individual Results

Monday marked the first tournament of the season in which BYU finished with two players in the top-10. Freshman Lila Galeai joined junior Mateo among the top 10 with a second-round score of 70 (-2) that put her in a tie for ninth at 147. It's the first top-10 finish of Galeai’s career in only her fifth collegiate tournament.

Mateo’s tie for third is her fourth top-3 finish of the season and seventh of her career. She has led the Cougars in scoring at seven of the eight tournaments this season.

Rounding out the tournament scoring for the Cougars were Kerstin Fotu (76-78—154), Cynthia Tu (80-80—160) and Naomi Soifua (76-85—161). Alina Vannarath (78-76—154) and Annick Haczkiewicz (78-80—158) competed in the tournament as individuals for BYU.

The Cougars now return to Provo with three weeks to prepare before their final tournament of the regular season at the Houston Oaks Women’s Invitational hosted by Baylor at The Clubs at Houston Oaks in Hockley, Texas on April 12-13.
