RENO, Nev. — BYU men's golf posted a 7-over final round of 295 to finish 12th in the Wolf Pack Classic at Hidden Valley Country Club on Tuesday.
New Mexico shot a 54-hole team total of 14-under (850) to take the team championship by four shots over San Francisco (854). Host Nevada finished in third at 877, followed by the UCLA Bruins in fourth at 878. The San Jose State Spartans rounded out the top-5 with an 880.
Carson Lundell was the low scorer for the Cougars shooting even par for the 54-hole event with rounds of 74-71-71—216 for an 11th place finish. This marks Lundell’s third top-25 in three tournaments, two of which were inside the top-11.
Cole Ponich posted a 2-under 70 in the final round. He shot 76-78-70—224 to tie for 43rd.
Keanu Akina shot 71-78-78—227 along with Elijah Turner who also posted a 54-hole total of 227 with rounds of 74-77-76. Zach Jones rounded out the scoring for the Cougars by firing a 54-hole total of 238.
“I know this team can play great golf,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “We definitely need to get back to the basics of hitting fairways, hitting greens and figuring out how to eliminate the big numbers."
The Cougars will tee it up next at the Stockton Invitational in Stockton, California on Oct 21-23.
