LOGAN, Utah - On Monday, the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference honored four BYU gymnasts for their outstanding performances on Friday.
No. 12 BYU posted a season-high score of 197.225 to edge out Southern Utah (197.000) in its meet on Friday in the Smith Fieldhouse. This score is the highest mark by an MRGC member this season.
Senior Sadie Miner-Van Tassell recorded another career-high score of 39.525 as she competed in the all-around against the Thunderbirds to earn her sixth-straight MRGC Gymnast of the Week award. Miner-Van Tassell posted scores above a 9.800 on all four events for the second week in a row. This mark ties for the 10th best all-around score in program history.
Along with Miner-Van Tassell, fellow senior Brittney Vitkasukas ended the night on the floor for BYU with a career-high 9.975 to take home the MRGC Floor Specialist of the Week. The mark is the highest in the MRGC this season and ties for the second highest floor score in program history.
BYU junior Elease Rollins earned her third MRGC Beam Specialist of the Week after matching her season-high score of 9.950 on the balance beam. Freshman redshirt Sydney Benson scored a 9.900 on vault to earn the shared MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week honors with Boise State freshman Alyssa Vulaj.
These amazing performances by BYU gymnasts helped the Cougars jump seven spots in the national rankings to No. 12. This is the highest national ranking of the season and the first time BYU has been ranked No. 12 since April 2021.
