PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s tennis dominated with a 6-1 win over Santa Clara on Saturday at the BYU Outdoor Tennis courts.

"We played with so much heart this weekend," said head Coach Holly Hasler.  "Two conference wins back to back is a huge confidence booster for us. We fell short in the doubles both days and then came together and fought for every singles point we could. This should give us great momentum for our last three matches of the season."

In doubles play, Anastasia Abramyan and Bobo Huang came out strong with a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Following close behind Kara Lin and Emilee Astle fought a close match at No. 3 doubles, eventually falling 6-3 to Santa Clara.

With the doubles point up to No. 1 doubles, Leah Heimuli and Helen Jiao took their opponents to 5-5 but eventually fell 7-5 to give Santa Clara their first point.

Trailing by one, BYU’s Heimuli took the court to face Finley Kalinic. Starting off singles play strong, Heimuli came away with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win for BYU at No. 1 singles.

Xenia De Luna finished soon after with another strong win, beating her opponent 6-1, 6-2 and giving BYU the lead. With the Cougars up 2-1, Lin took her first set 6-1 for BYU at No. 5 singles. SCU’s Katherine Petty battled back taking the second set to 5-5, but eventually lost to Lin 7-5 to give the Cougars their third point.

At No. 4 singles, Emilee Astle fought a tough three-set match for BYU. With a 4-6 loss in the first set, Astle came back strong, winning her second two 6-2, 6-2 securing the match win for BYU.

The Cougars continued playing in another two split set matches. At No. 3 and 2 singles, Huang and Abramyan earned wins for the Cougars, giving BYU a 6-1 win over Santa Clara.
