SAN MATEO, Calif. — BYU right fielder Cole Gambill was one of 13 student-athletes named to the 2022 West Coast Conference All-Academic Baseball Team on Thursday.

The junior from Alpine, Utah, played in 33 games for BYU, starting the majority of the season in right field. He currently has a 3.93 grade point average as a business finance major and was selected by the WCC head coaches to the 2022 Preseason All-WCC Baseball Team. He was also named to the 2022 Perfect Game Preseason WCC All-Conference Team.

Despite missing 21 games to a mid-season injury, Gambill finished top five in several offensive categories for BYU, including runs scored, runs batted in, home runs, walks, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. Gambill was also named WCC Player of the Week on Feb. 28.

Three other Cougars were named 2022 WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention, including senior outfielder Hayden Leatham as well as sophomore left-handed pitchers Cooper McKeehan and Boston Mabeus. McKeehan was previously named WCC Second-Team All-WCC after leading the Cougar pitching staff with the lowest ERA (1.59), fewest earned runs (4) and batting average against (.163).

To be considered for the WCC All-Academic Baseball Team, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor on the team.
