SAN MATEO, Calif. — Freshman Hailey Morrow was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Morrow finished the week with a .444 batting average, tied for a team-high in BYU's series sweep at Santa Clara to open conference play. The catcher led the team with an .889 slugging percentage, also recording a .500 on-base percentage.

Her two-run homer in the opening game of the series put the Cougars ahead 4-0, a lead that held up as BYU would win the series opener, 4-3. Behind the dish, the Las Vegas, Nevada product tallied 22 putouts and two assists on a perfect fielding percentage, including a throw that would erase a Bronco baserunner attempting to steal second base.

Tied for the team-lead in batting average, at .333, Morrow is also second on the team in slugging percentage (.652), on-base percentage (.444), and walks (13) this season and is tied for second in home runs, with five.

This is the Cougars' fifth weekly honor of the season, with Morrow the third different freshman to receive a conference award in 2023.
