PROVO, Utah — BYU centerfielder Cole Gambill and pitcher Carter Foss were named 2023 Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.
The 2023 Academic All‐District Baseball Team recognize the nation’s top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.
Gambill, from Alpine, Utah, graduated in April with a 3.93 GPA in finance from the BYU Marriott School of Business, the No. 2 ranked finance program in the country. Gambill is currently top 10 in the WCC in runs (1st), runs per game (1.17), total bases (4th), slugging (6th), home runs (6th), hits (9th) and doubles (8th).
He was named Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week and the WCC Player of the Week on April 17. The BYU outfielder was also a candidate for the WCC Player of the Week, on March 14, April 4, April 18 and May 2.
Over the past two seasons, Gambill was named to the West Coast Conference Preseason All-Conference Team and the WCC Commissioner’s Gold Honor Roll twice. He was also named All-WCC and WCC All-Academic in 2021.
Foss, a sophomore from San Diego, has a 3.59 GPA in pre-business. Following his freshman year in 2022, Foss was named to the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll which recognizes student-athletes who have excelled in balancing the demands of athletics and academia.
The sophomore, righthanded reliever has appeared in 12 games out of the bullpen in 2023. He has 15 strikeouts in 11.2 innings. Foss also appeared in six games for BYU as a freshman in 2022.
Academic All‐District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All‐America ballot. The Division 1 Baseball Academic All‐Americans will be announced on June 7.
