KANSAS CITY, Mo. — BYU women’s golfer Allysha Mae Mateo received College Sports Communications (CSC) Academic All-District honors, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
To qualify for All-Academic honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and compete as a starter or significant reserve in at least half of their team’s tournaments during the 2022-23 season.
Mateo was a five-year starter for the Cougars who put together an all-time career both on the course and in the classroom. She graduated with a Master of Accountancy from the Marriott School of Business and held a 3.94 cumulative GPA during her BYU career.
"Allysha Mae gives 100 percent effort to everything she does," said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. "I’ve always admired her commitment to giving and being her best. Her commitment to excellence has led to her immense success in the classroom and on the golf course. She is truly an amazing human and has always made us proud."
The fifth-year senior garnered conference honors in each of her final four years as a Cougar, being named to the WCC All-Academic First Team four times ('20, '21, '22, '23), the All-WCC First Team three times ('21, '22, '23) and was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2021.
Mateo recorded a career scoring average of 73.60 with a 72.71 scoring average during her senior 2022-23 campaign, the third-lowest single-season stroke average in program history. The senior teed it up in all 13 events for BYU this season while earning 11 top-25 finishes, 10 top 15s, nine top 10s, four top 5s and a win at the 2022 Miami Hurricane Invitational.
Having completed her BYU career, Mateo plans to compete in the LPGA Tour's qualifying school this fall as well as pursue a career in accounting.
