SAN MATEO, Calif. — Senior pitcher Chloe Temples highlighted five BYU softball student-athletes on the 2023 West Coast Conference All-Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday.
The lefty was joined by sophomore outfielders Lauren Flanders and Alexis Gilio, junior outfielder Taryn Lennon and senior second baseman Alyssa Podhurcak-Foss, who all received Honorable Mention honors. Temples, Flanders, Lennon and Podhurcak-Foss were all named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team as well.
To qualify for nomination, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher and be a starter or significant reserve in at least half of their team’s games during the 2023 season.
Boasting a 3.99 GPA as a microbiology major, Temples finished the year with a 9-6 record and 3.69 ERA. She struck out 127 batters in 115 2/3 innings pitched, posting eight compete games. The Marianna, Florida native was also named to the All-WCC Second Team.
Flanders is a pre-computer science: animation program and games major with a 3.85 GPA. The Peachtree City, Georgia product batted .200 on the season with five hits and five runs scored, also going 2-for-2 on stolen bases.
Earning a 3.33 GPA as a psychology major, Gilio recorded a .284 batting average with 27 hits, including seven doubles, and 22 runs scored. Out of Lafayette, Colorado, she also tallied six stolen bases, five runs and five walks.
Lennon is communications: journalism/public relations major with a 3.52 GPA. Hailing from Buena Park, California, she posted a .154 batting average with 10 runs scored, four hits and three RBI, with two stolen bases.
A global supply chain management graduate with a 3.71 GPA, Podhurcak-Foss hit .232 on the year with four doubles, two home runs and one triple. The Torrance, California native tallied 10 RBI, 10 walks and scored eight runs.
