BERKELEY, Ca. — The Cal Fall Invitational concluded with BYU women's tennis securing multiple victories over the weekend. The entire roster competed in the tournament hosted by Cal. No. 2 Tina Li finished as a semifinalist in the top draw, while No. 2 Emilee Astle and Bobo Huang finished as finalists in the top doubles draw.
"Berkeley was two long but exciting days of tennis. As coaches, we were thrilled to come home with three undefeated doubles teams and two undefeated singles players," said head coach Holly Hasler. "We were super proud of the way Tina and Emilee battled, both defeating strong Cal players on the road to their singles success. The fall season is about learning and improving, so we are confident and ready going into our team season. It's always fun to come home and get back to work."
In singles, Kendall Kovick (1-1), Kaavya Sawhney (0-0), Maddy Smith (2-1), Astle (3-0), No. 2 Li (3-0), and Kara Wheatley (0-1) all participated in the gold draw. No. 5 Huang (0-1) and Jacque Dunyon (0-1) competed in the blue draw, while Avery Pope (0-1) and Bitsy Tullis (0-1) were in the white draw.
In the blue draw, No. 2 Astle and Huang (3-0) partnered for doubles play. In the gold draw, Dunyon and Li (0-1) played, while Sawhney/Wheatley (3-0) and Kovick/Smith (0-1) competed in the white draw. Sawhney and Wheatley finished as finalists in their draw, and Pope and Tullis (3-0) competed in the grey draw and also finished as finalists.
The Cougars had multiple doubles teams and Li in singles finish as finalists but had to withdraw due to the final matches being played on Sunday.
