BYU headed to Fort Worth for TCU Hidden Dual

BYU women's tennis is gearing up for the TCU Hidden Dual, beginning on Thursday. The Invitational will showcase both singles and doubles draws for the athletes participating in the event.

FORT WORTH — BYU women's tennis is gearing up for the TCU Hidden Dual, beginning on Thursday. The Invitational will showcase both singles and doubles draws for the athletes participating in the event.

Representing the Cougars at this event will be Kendall Kovick, Tina Li, Avery Pope, Maddy Smith, Bitsy Tullis, and Kara Wheatley. BYU's singles and doubles matches are scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from October 26 to 28.

The Cougars

Kendal Kovick

The junior hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, has had a successful start to her fall season with BYU, boasting a 3-2 record in doubles and a 4-5 record in singles. Kovick, along with her doubles partner Kara Wheatley, made an impressive run to the quarterfinals at ITA Regionals last week with a 3-1 record.

Tina Li

Li, a sophomore from Auckland, New Zealand, has continued her success since joining the program last year. After an impressive freshman season where she held a 15-7 singles record and an 11-6 record in doubles, Li has maintained her winning this fall, securing six doubles victories and seven singles victories already.

Avery Pope

A junior from Provo, Utah, Pope has had success in doubles, notching a 5-2 record in the fall season. She'll be looking to boost her singles record in Forth Worth, as she currently stands at 1-5.

Maddy Smith

Smith, a junior from Henderson, Nevada, returns after a notable run to the quarterfinals at ITA Regionals last week, with a 3-1 record in singles at the event. She was also named a 2023 Bedford Cup Bravo draw finalist earlier this fall, boasting an impressive 8-3 record in singles and a 4-4 record in doubles this year.

Bitsy Tullis

Tullis, a sophomore from Centerville, Utah, who recently completed a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Lima, Peru, has made a strong showing this fall with a 5-2 record in doubles and a 2-3 record in singles.

Kara Wheatley

The senior from Hong Kong, China, recently found success alongside Kovick as a doubles tandem at ITA Regionals last week, making it to the quarterfinals with a 3-1 record. Wheatley has been equally impressive this fall, recording a 6-1 record in doubles and a 5-2 record in singles.

Coaching Staff

Head coach Holly Hasler is in her sixth season at BYU, entering the year with a 58-46 all-time record with the Cougars.

Assistant coach Gabby Curtis, in her third season with the Cougars, played collegiately at USC, amassing 72 career singles wins and 73 career doubles victories during her time with the Trojans from 2015-2017.
