IRVING, Texas — Mickey Strauss and Jordan Tiffany garnered Big 12 Men’s Diver and Newcomer of the Week, respectively, following impressive debuts at the Intermountain Shootout Sept. 29-30.

Strauss and Tiffany bolstered BYU men’s swim and dive to wins over Air Force and Colorado Mesa at the season-opening meet. The Cougars dominated the Falcons 316.5-90.5 and beat Colorado Mesa 253.5-146.5.
Strauss swept the men’s diving events with wins in both 1-meter (six dives) and 3-meter (11 dives). The senior from Provo, Utah posted a 300.9 in the 1-meter and 513.05 in the three, edging the Mavericks Isaiah Cheeks in both.
Strauss continues the season in pursuit of the BYU school record in both 1 and 3-meter events. The five-time MPSF champion currently ranks second and third, respectively, while holding the school record in platform diving.
The Intermountain Shootout saw Tiffany compete in his first meet for the Cougars after transferring from Tennessee. Tiffany finished the weekend with wins in the 50 and 100 fly while helping the Cougars come out on top in both 200 and 400 medley relays.
The freshman from Pleasant Grove, Utah wasted no time breaking BYU school records as he recorded a 21.68 to win the 50 fly over Colorado Mesa’s Kuba Kiszczak. Tiffany controlled the 100 fly en route to a win at 47.11, over two seconds ahead of runner-up Ev VanBrocklin of Utah.
At 47.11, Tiffany tied Jorge Azevedo (2008) for No. 2 all-time at BYU in the 100 fly.
Strauss, Tiffany and the Cougars are back in action on Oct. 13 in their first dual meet of the season at TCU.
