MADISON, Wisc. – No. 3 BYU men’s cross country will race at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday.

BYU is coming off a second-place finish at the Virginia Invitational on Sept. 23. Junior Joey Nokes placed fourth for the Cougars in the 8k, with a time of 23:30.05. Senior captain Aidan Troutner crossed the finish next in 14th place in 23:40.3. A total of five Cougars finished in the top-30 overall.

The Cougars are one of 21 top-30 ranked teams competing in the 36-team championship field in Madison. Big 12 Conference rival No. 2 Oklahoma State will be in attendance as well as defending NCAA Champions No. 1 Northern Arizona.

The Cougars will look to improve upon last season’s second-place team finish at Nuttycombe in which they accrued 89 points. In 2022, Nokes crossed the finish first for BYU and 15th overall at 23.26.6. Five BYU runners finished within two seconds of each other, each placing between 15th and 21st.

Newly minted NCAA and USATF 3,000-meter steeplechase champion Kenneth Rooks  looks to make his season debut on Friday. Rooks finished tenth in the steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships on Aug. 22nd with a time of 8:20.02 and was named BYU team co-captain to start the cross country campaign.

Following the Nuttycombe Wiscosin Invitational, the Cougars will head to the program’s inaugural Big 12 Cross Country Championships at the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames, Iowa Saturday Oct. 28.
