“We are excited for a new week of football, and we are looking forward to our Senior Day matchup with Oklahoma this weekend. Obviously last weekend didn’t go the way we wanted, but after watching the film and seeing where we are at, I’m excited for what we can get done this week with a quality opponent coming to town. We made a lot of mistakes last week, and we can’t do that this weekend. We are excited to find a way to win for our seniors for their last game in LaVell Edwards Stadium.”
On the culture of the team
“I love the fight of our players, and the culture is still thriving. I believe the culture is still thriving because guys aren’t pointing fingers at each other, they are still unified. Even with all the outside noise, our guys are still connected and love their roles on the team. The guys are not quitting, and I love seeing the energy they have when I watch the film.”
On Oklahoma
“Oklahoma is a great team that’s ranked this season. The coaching staff has done a great job with that team, and the Oklahoma brand has had a lot of success over the years. The Sooners have been around the P-5 level for decades, and they are ranked for a reason. They went 6-6 last season, and have made significant improvements this year with a very talented roster. We are aware of all their quarterback can do, with his feet and his arm. He has a very strong arm, and there are great playmakers on their offensive line.”
“It is a great opportunity to have Oklahoma on our home field this weekend. They are ranked and in the hunt for the conference championship. We are fighting for one more win to extend our season, so there’s a lot to play for. We pride ourselves in taking care of the football here at BYU, so we need to get back to that and make sure we do that against Oklahoma. That ball belongs to Cougar Nation, so we need to protect it.”
On Oklahoma’s Quarterback
“He has tons of experience and you can see it. I thought he looked that way when we played against him years ago, so he’s just kept improving and looks really comfortable on the field. He has so much talent and I have been really impressed with him. He does a great job leading his team, and he’s not a guy who will lose his composure. He is very comfortable in the system, and he thrives on finding ways to get the ball to the right person.”
On team physicality
“Our guys weren’t turning down contact or shying away from it, but we need to be more stout at the line of scrimmage. Our team is a physical team, you can talk to anyone who coaches against us, but what makes us not look [physical is when we miss blocks and miss tackles.”
