Marusakova wins 200 back in final day at Mizzou

BYU women’s swimmers set five program top-10 times and 18 personal-bests in their final day of competition at the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Missouri on Friday.

PROVO, Utah — BYU women’s swimmers set five program top-10 times and 18 personal-bests in their final day of competition at the Mizzou Invitational in Columbia, Missouri on Friday.

"These kids love what they do and they raced to the very end," said BYU head swimming coach Shari Skabelund. "They all fed off of each other with unbelievable energy and effort leading to so many good swims." 

Emma Marusakova clocked a personal-best 1:57.66 to win the 200 back over Lezli Sisung of Kansas. Marusakova cut 2.83 seconds off her preliminary time and rose from ninth to fifth all-time at BYU in the event.

Each of the five BYU women competing in the 100 free set new personal bests. Halli Williams was the Cougars’ top-finisher, taking third at 49.48. Williams surpassed Aleesha Miller (2009) for third all-time in program history. Lily Flint took 11th in the 100 free but worked her way to eighth on the top-10 board.

Five BYU women competed in 1650 free with Victoria Schreiber taking fourth in a personal-best 16:43.95. Schreiber improved her previous best by over a minute on the way to surpassing Alexandra Dodds (2012) for No. 3 all-time at BYU.

Mackenzie Lung and Addison Richards took third and seventh, respectively, in the 200 breast with Richards clocking a personal-best 2:15.10 and moving into eighth all-time.

BYU swimmers will participate in long course time trials at the Mizzou Aquatics Center on Saturday. Participating athletes will vie for U.S. Olympic Trial time standards in hopes of qualifying for the June 2024 event at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Women’s diving continued competition at the SMU Invite in Dallas, Texas on Friday. Brooklyn Larson and Alexia Jackson each posted top-10 finishes for the Cougars in the 3-meter finals with scores of 282.95 and 269.05, respectively. The divers will conclude competition in Dallas on Saturday.
