IRVING, Texas — BYU guard Kailey Woolston was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second-straight week on Monday morning after leading all conference freshmen in three statistical categories.

“Kailey has come in and played like a player that is well beyond her years,” said BYU head coach Amber Whiting. “She has been a consistent and efficient scorer for us who opens up the floor for Lauren [Gustin] and Emma [Calvert] inside as well as for our other playmakers on the perimeter. I am proud of Kailey and the hard work she has put in to get to this point.”

The freshman finished the week averaging 18.5 points, going 14-for-23 (60.9 percent) from the field and 9-of-12 (75 percent) from three-point land while recording 5.5 rebounds, two assists and 1.5 steals in the Cougars' two wins over Saint Louis and LMU.

Woolston matched her career-high of 19 points and seven made field goals against Saint Louis on Tuesday while setting a new career high of five made triples. In taking down the Billikens, she also carded five rebounds, two on the offensive glass, an assist and a steal en route to being named the Hawaii North Shore Classic MVP.

She then followed that performance with 18 points on Saturday to lift the Cougars over the LMU Lions. In the 74-58 win, Woolston again made seven field goals, for the third time this season, to tie her career-high while going 4-for-5 (.800) from behind the arc while grabbing six boards, dishing two assists and snatching two steals.

Woolston is the sixth leading scorer in the Big 12 at 17.17 points per game to lead all Big 12 freshmen. The freshman is also the Big 12's outright leader in 3-point field goal percentage (.590), second in made threes (23), sixth in total field goal percentage at 60.3 percent and fifth overall in minutes played (34.14).

Woolston and the Cougars next travel to Laramie, Wyoming to take on the Wyoming Cowgirls at 6:30 p.m. MT on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The game will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network and will be broadcast live on BYU Radio 107.9, byuradio.com and the BYU Radio App with Jason Shepherd on the call.
