PROVO, Utah. — BYU women’s soccer was named a No. 1 seed for the NCAA DI Women’s Soccer Tournament, the league announced during its selection show on Monday.

BYU has not been a No. 1 seed in the national tournament since the 2012 season, when the Cougars made it to the quarterfinals before falling to UNC 2-1 in overtime.

The Cougars will be hosting Utah State in the first round of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. MST on South Field. BYU and Utah State last met on Sept. 16, 2023 when the Aggies beat the Cougars 1-0, handing BYU its only loss of the regular season.

Going 14-1-3 in the regular season and 7-0-3 in the Big 12 Conference, the Cougars finished No. 2 in conference and No. 6 nationally, with an RPI ranking of No. 2.

In their first Big 12 Tournament appearance, the Cougars beat Oklahoma (6-0) and UCF (4-1) to make it to the championship match against Texas, where they fell, 3-1.

Under the direction of head coach Jennifer Rockwood, BYU has made 23 NCAA tournament appearances, including seven Sweet Sixteens, three Elite Eights and one College Cup finals appearance in 2021. Last year, the Cougars earned a No. 6 seed and made it to the Sweet Sixteen before falling to UNC, 3-2.

First-round games will be played on Nov. 10-Nov. 12 at 32 different campus sites. The second- and third-round games will occur at eight campus sites, and those rounds will take place Nov. 17 and 19, with the quarterfinals on Nov. 24 or 25. As a No. 1 seed in the tournament, BYU would host games in the first four rounds, as long as the Cougars keep winning, leading all the way to the College Cup.

The 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer College Cup is scheduled to take place Dec. 1 and 4 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
