- Friday’s morning matinee is the first meeting between the in-state rivals since 2016 when BYU edged Weber State 73-64 to earn a home win.
- BYU was the only Big 12 team to open its season on the road, picking up its first road win of the Big 12 era with a 68-60 win over Montana State
- Newcomers Amari Whiting, Kailey Woolston and Lauren Davenport played a combined 100 of 200 total minutes in the season opener while accounting for 43 of 68 Cougar points (63%), 11 of 43 rebounds (26%), 8 of 10 assists (80%), and 8 of 10 steals (80%).
- Last season, BYU garnered an 11-3 record when 3 players scored in double figures compared to a 2-10 mark when less than 3 players finished with 10 or more points. The Cougars had four players finish in double-figures in Bozeman marking the first time that Whiting’s squad has had four players score 10+ points without Lauren Gustin being one of the four.

Kendra Parra was the leading scorer for the Wildcats (13) in their 56-55 loss to the Wolverines on Monday. The 5-9 junior guard was 8-for-9 from the charity stripe after drawing a team-high seven fouls. The transfer from Metropolitan State University of Denver finished with 13 points on 2-of-7 shooting, going 1-for-4 from behind the loop while grabbing five rebounds and an assist.

Jadyn Matthews, a 6-0 forward finished with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The Redding, Calif. native was 1-for-1 from downtown while grabbing eight rebounds. The senior started all 31 games for Weber State a year ago while averaging 34.8 minutes, 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds while going 79.5 percent from the free-throw line.

Matthews has the 17th most points in Weber State history with 1,188. She is currently 240 points away from cracking the top-10 and 464 points from entering the top-5.

The Wildcats grabbed 44 rebounds in their season opener, outrebounding Utah Valley by 23 rebounds, 44-21. Weber State had six players with 4+ rebounds, four with 5+ with Daryn Hickok and Matthews grabbing nine and eight, respectively.
