HONOLULU, Hawaii — Former BYU wide receiver-running back Reno Mahe will be inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame as part of its Class of 2024.
Mahe, along with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Domata Peko, will be inducted during the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend, January 19-20, 2024 in Hawaii.
The three inductees were selected from a field of over 100 nominees by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee that includes Jack Thompson (chairman), Dick Vermeil, Ron McBride, Olin Kreutz, Kevin Mawae, Ray Schoenke, Neil Everett and Steve Wyche.
Mahe played three seasons for the Cougars (1998, 2001-02) where he became one of the best all-purpose players in BYU history, totaling 166 receptions for 2,163 receiving yards, while rolling up 3,417 all-purpose yards. In addition, Mahe had 116 carries for 719 yards, returned 16 kickoffs for 321 yards and 18 punts for 214 yards.
After being named first team All-Mountain West Conference as a junior in 2001 and a senior in 2002, Mahe joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie free agent in 2003 and made the opening day roster as a running back.
In five seasons with the Eagles from 2003-07, Mahe played in 38 games. In 2005, he led the NFL as a punt returner with 21 returns for 269 yards and was selected to the Pro Bowl. He was also a member of the Eagles 2004 NFC Championship and Super Bowl XXXIX team. In addition, Mahe was the Philadelphia Eagles player representative for the NFL Players Association from 2007-08, and a was founding board member of the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.
Mahe becomes just the second former BYU standout to be inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame, joining two-time NFL Pro Bowler Vai Sikahema, who was enshrined in 2016.
The Polynesian Football Hall of Fame honors Polynesia’s greatest players, coaches, and contributors. Its permanent home is located at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Laie, Hawaii, and was established in 2013 by Super Bowl Champions Jesse Sapolu and Ma’a Tanuvasa. Since its inception, 44 individuals have been inducted into the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame.
