BYU looks for bounce-back win against Nevada at Lady Bear Classic

BYU and Nevada will face off in the final game of the Missouri State Lady Bear Classic on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023. Tip-off is scheduled for noon CT at Great Southern Bank Arena. 

The game will not be streamed on ESPN+, however, fans can tune in for live play-by-play with Jason Shepherd on BYU Radio 107.9 FM, BYU Radio.org or the BYU Radio app.

Matchup Breakdown

The Cougars and Wolfpack last shared the hardwood on Nov. 22, 2014, when assistant coach Morgan Bailey was a senior at BYU. Bailey recorded a double-double against the Wolfpack with 12 points, 17 rebounds, three steals and an assist in the 65-60 win at the Marriott Center.

LIGHTING IT UP FROM DEEP: The Cougars have shot 38.9 percent from three-point land through 12 games with Kailey Woolston and Kaylee Smiler each shooting over 51 percent from behind the arc. The 39.2 percent mark is good for 11th in the country and 2nd in the Big 12.

REBOUNDING QUEEN: Through eleven games, Gustin leads the nation in total rebounds (189), rebounding average (15.8), defensive rebounds per game (10.9) and double-doubles (10). The senior is 103 rebounds away from breaking the all-time BYU rebounding record held by the Gunn.

TURNOVERS GALORE: Nevada makes a living off of turnovers. The Wolfpack is averaging 13.2 steals per game so far during the 2023-24 campaign and forces an average of 21.9 turnovers per game so far this year. The Pack are 6th in the nation and first in the Mountain West in steals and top 25 in the country in turnover margin (6.3).

IZZY SULLIVAN: Sullivan was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week on Monday after notching her first-career 20-point game against Stanislaus State last Saturday. The freshman's 20-point performance was the first time a Nevada freshman had scored more than 20 points in a game since Dec. 4, 2021. 

GABBY GETTING IT DONE: Giuffre led Nevada with her first career double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-62 win over South Alabama on Nov. 24 in the University of Denver Classic. She finished with a career-high in points and rebounds while going 4-for-5 from 3-point range.
