PROVO, Utah — No. 19 BYU women’s gymnastics travels north to Salt Lake City, Utah for the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad at the Maverik Center Saturday evening.

The two-day competition has three sessions with team, all-around and event champions for each session. BYU will compete in the Saturday, January 13 evening session against Cal, Michigan State and NC State. The Saturday evening session is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. MT.

THE COUGARS. The BYU women’s gymnastics team began the 2024 season at the Mean Girls Super 16 Championships in Las Vegas on Saturday, Jan. 6. The Cougars took home a fourth-place finish with a final score of 195.900. Senior Anyssa Alvarado earned Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week after notching a new career-high score of 9.950 on the uneven bars. BYU’s team bars score of 49.425 is tied for the third-best score on the apparatus in program history.

THE GOLDEN BEARS. No. 6 Cal also opened its season at the Mean Girls Super 16 meet in Las Vegas, taking home a second-place finish with a team score of 196.850. The Bears began their night on the uneven bars, notching a 49.550, which ties for the fourth-highest score in program history. Cal’s junior Mya Lauzon took home the all-around title in the first meet of the 2024 season.

THE SPARTANS. No. 14 Michigan State opened its season at the Mean Girls Super 16, competing in the Friday evening session of the two-day event. The Spartans took home a third-place finish with a team score of 196.300, and a perfect 10 on vault by sophomore Sage Kellerman. This perfect 10.000 was the first on vault in the NCAA this season.

THE WOLFPACK. No. 30 NC State started its 2024 season on Saturday, Jan. 6 with a 194.225 final score in a dual-meet loss to Georgia. The Pack’s Chloe Negrete took home individual titles on vault (9.875) and beam (9.900), while Emily Shepherd claimed a solo first-place finish on floor (9.850). Shepherd finished the day in second place among four all-around competitors (39.050).
