PROVO, Utah — Due to an unforeseen health issue, Justin Su’a is unable to attend the BYU Baseball First Pitch Dinner scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024. Pinch-hitting for Justin as the event's keynote speaker will be former BYU outfielder and current NFL quarterback Jaren Hall.
Hall, who just finished his rookie season with the Minnesota Vikings, played outfield for the Cougar baseball team for two seasons where he appeared in 27 games with eight starts as a true freshman in 2019 as well as five games, with three starts as a sophomore, before Covid ended the 2020 season.
Due to nagging injuries from playing two sports, Hall decided to focus on football, where he appeared in 31 games, including 25 starts, at quarterback for the Cougars from 2018-22. After backing up NFL first round draft choice Zach Wilson, Hall became the Cougars’ starting quarterback over his final two seasons in 2021 and 2022.
During his BYU career, Hall passed for 6,174 yards and 52 touchdowns while also rushing for 796 yards and nine scores on the ground. The native of Spanish Fork, Utah finished as BYU's all-time leader in career interception avoidance percentage as well as fourth all-time at BYU in both career completion percentage and pass efficiency rating.
Hall also won many awards for his performance on the field, including Independent Offensive Player of the Year, Independent Quarterback of the Year, and All-Independent First Team by College Football Network (2022), Phil Steele All-Independent First Team (2021, 2022) and Pro Football Network Independent Quarterback of the Year (2021).
The Minnesota Vikings selected Hall in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. As a rookie with the Vikings, he appeared in three regular season games, starting two, and completing 13 of 20 pass for 168 yards.
Hall is married to former Utah Valley soccer player Breanna McCarter (2014-18). They are the parents of one daughter, Jayda, born in 2021.
The BYU baseball fundraiser is scheduled for 6 p.m. MST and includes a silent auction, dinner and a program featuring a keynote address from Hall.
