Men's Swim and Dive racks up 484 points in day one at home meet

BYU men’s swim and dive put on a dominant showing with 484 points in day one of competition at the Richards Building Pool on Friday versus Air Force and Colorado Mesa.

PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s swim and dive put on a dominant showing with 484 points in day one of competition at the Richards Building Pool on Friday versus Air Force and Colorado Mesa.

CMU scored 332 points on Friday and Air Force 202.

BYU won nine of 10 events with Joshua Reed and Fletcher Madsen posting a team-high 28 and 25 points, respectively.

Reed won the 100 free in 45.67 and also anchored the 400 medley relay squad to a win at 3:17.81. Diego Camacho Salgado, Emerson Edwards and Brad Prolo joined Reed in the 400 MR win.

Fletcher Madsen clocked 20.83 to win the 50 Free. Jordan Tiffany won the 200 individual medley with a personal best 1:45.56. Tiffany’s time broke the Richards Building Pool Record, set by himself, while at Lone Peak High School in 2019.

Emerson Edwards won the 200 breast in 2:02.89 followed by Tony Puertas taking the top spot in the 200 fly at 1:52.09. The Cougars held the top-four spots in each of the 200 breast and 200 fly.

Abraham Barragan went 4:35.12 to win the 500 free with Darwin Anderson and Alan Gonzalez in second and third, respectively.

Camacho Salgado, Zimmerman, Madsen and Payton Plumb finished the night for BYU with a 200 free win at 1:21.98.

Mickey Strauss and Chase Hindmarsh took first and second, respectively, in 1-meter diving.

Competition resumes for the Cougars, Falcons and Mavericks on Saturday at 11 a.m. MST.
