NORMAN, Okla. — The BYU women’s gymnastics team took home a second-place finish with a 196.250 in the Oklahoma quad meet on Friday evening at the Lloyd Noble Center.

No. 1 Oklahoma took home the win with a 198.450, while Utah State placed third with a 195.000 and Texas Woman’s finished in fourth place at 194.575.

Oklahoma posted the highest scores on all four events, with Jordan Bowers earning the all-around title with a score of 39.750. 

BYU’s bar swingers opened the meet with a 49.100. Kylie Eaquinto tied her season high with a 9.850, followed by a 9.825 from Anyssa Alvarado. Senior Anna Bramblett earned the highest score of the rotation with a new season-high score of 9.900. Competing for just the second time this season, freshman Alilah Alvarado anchored the Cougars with a career-high score of 9.800.

Following the first rotation, the Sooners were in the lead with a 49.550, followed by Utah State (49.225), BYU (49.100) and Texas Woman’s (48.250).

Moving to the balance beam in rotation two, senior Allix Mason led off with a 9.750 for the Cougars. Freshman beam worker Brynlee Anderson scored a 9.800 for the second week in a row as the sixth gymnast for BYU. With a beam score of 48.725, the Cougars held their third-place spot heading into their third rotation of the night.

The Cougars found their rhythm on the floor, with Eliza Millar-Crossman opening the rotation with a season-high 9.850. Sophie Dudley tied her career high with a 9.925, followed by a new career-high 9.900 from junior Heidi Schooley. For the second week in a row, Sydney Benson earned a 9.900 on floor in the anchor position for the Cougars. 

BYU tied its season-high floor score with a 49.325 to pass Utah State for a second-place overall ranking heading into the final rotation. The Sooners held onto their lead with a total score of 148.700, followed by the Cougars at 147.150, the Aggies with 146.550 and the Pioneers at 146.350.

The Cougars ended their night on the vault. Melissa Earl tied her career high for the second time this season with a 9.825. Mason competed on vault for the first time this season, notching a 9.725. Benson tied her season high with a 9.875, followed by a season-high 9.875 by Eaquinto as the Cougars posted a vault score of 49.100.

Following the vault rotation, BYU held onto a second-place finish, posting a 196.250 behind Oklahoma’s 198.450. Utah State took home third with a 195.000 and Texas Woman’s rounded out the competition with a 194.575.

Up next, the Cougars head to Kentucky to compete in the Memorial Coliseum on Friday, Feb. 16. The meet will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 5 p.m. MT.
