PROVO, Utah — Mackenzie Lung clocked 2:12.18 in the 200 breast and broke the Richards Building Pool record on Saturday as BYU women’s swim and dive concluded regular season competition versus Utah.

Despite the 188.5-111.5 team loss to the Utes, Lung and the Cougars showed strong individual performances on day two of the dual meet.

Lung put on a dominant performance in the 200 breast with a lengthy lead from start to finish. At 2:12.18, Lung returned the women’s pool record to BYU after Utah’s Charity Pittard set it in 2020. The sophomore from Clovis, California was just three-fourths of a second off the 200 breast school record set by Katie McBratney in 2021. Lung led the BYU women with 18 individual points at the meet.

Halli Williams started the day off strong for the Cougars with a 0.2-second win over the Utes’ Reagan Cathcart in the 100 free. Williams was BYU’s second-leading scorer with 12.5 points and helped the 400 free relay “A” squad to a runner-up spot at 3:22.24. Tatum Cooley, Lily Flint and Julia Bartell joined Williams in the relay.

Addison Richards and Emma Marusakova added two more podium finishes for BYU on Saturday. Richards gave BYU a 1-2 finish in the 200 breast as she followed Lung to the wall at 2:15.87. Marusakova went 2:00.48 to take third in the 200 back.

In women’s dive, Alexia Jackson continued her team-leading season. The sophomore from Mesa, Arizona recorded BYU’s top-finishing spot in both 1 and 3-meter diving. Jackson recorded 282.90 points to go runner-up in the 3-meter and 265.88 to take third in the 1-meter.

With the regular season concluded, BYU now turns its attention to the Big 12 Swim and Dive Championships Feb. 27-March 2 at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia.
