Oblad, Jones, Hart & Ellis break 4x400-meter school record

Sami Oblad, Lainey Jones, Annalise Hart and Emily Ellis teamed up to break BYU's school record in the 4x400-meter relay running 3:35.80 on day two of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sami Oblad, Lainey Jones, Annalise Hart and Emily Ellis teamed up to break BYU's school record in the 4x400-meter relay running 3:35.80 on day two of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.

Women's Recap

Oblad, Jones, Hart and Ellis crossed the line nearly 3.5 seconds faster than the previous school record of 3:39.15 run last season at the Razorback Invitational. Hart has now contributed to the past three school records in the event and Oblad the past two. 

Hart continued to make her mark on the BYU record board this weekend clocking a 54.55 in the open 400m to move to No. 6 all-time. A senior from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Hart is also No. 7 in BYU's outdoor 400m, running 53.92 last season. 

"Everybody came back for day two of the meet ready for more. We had outstanding efforts all around. I’m super proud of the way the group competed today. I was excited for Anna to move up on the top 10 board in the 400-meters and of course the women shattering the school record on the 4x400m relay."

Jaslyn Gardner placed third in the 60m invitational final running a 7.31. The senior from Enterprise, Utah holds BYU's school records in the 60m, 100m and is No. 2 in the indoor 200m running 23.57 yesterday. 

Pentathletes Mayci Taylor and Maddy Eaton set personal-bests in the 800m running 2:14.85 and 2:18.50, respectively. Teammate Zoey Bonds also set a personal best in the 60m hurdles sprinting to 8.74.

Men's Recap

Junior Eli Hazlett put his name on the BYU record board clocking 46.32 in the 400m dash good for No. 3 all-time and second in the meet. From Moab, Utah, Hazlett is a part of both the indoor and outdoor 4x400m relay records at BYU. 

The men's 4x400m team of Hazlett, Abram Schaap, Jace Jensen and Josh Taylor won the event in a season's best time of 3:06.64. The 'B' team of G Kire Goulding, Dallin Draper, Logan Hubler and Trey Jackson placed fourth with a time of 3:12.22.

"Eli executed his race plan well and ran a big PR and top 10 time. We finished off the meet strong with the 4x4 relays. The men ran a season best and I am really excited for them as we head into our conference championships."

Schaap earned a personal-best time in the 60m running 6.88, good for first place in the unseeded sections. On day one of the invitational, Schaap ran 21.20 in the 200m to move to No. 9 on BYU's indoor record board. 

In the shot put, Danny Bryant placed second, throwing 18.21m/59-9. 

The Cougars will return to Boston next weekend for the Terrier DMR Challenge Feb. 16.
