GONZAGA (1-6): Thursday marks the 65th all-time meeting between BYU and Gonzaga. The Cougars’ former West Coast Conference foe leads the series 36-28 including a 2-1 series win in Spokane, Washington a season ago. BYU holds a 15-14 series lead when facing the Zags in Provo.
Gonzaga finished sixth in the WCC in 2023 with an 18-34 (14-13) record. The Zags were picked to again finish sixth in the 2024 WCC Preseason Coaches Poll. Head coach Mark Machtolf is in his 21st season leading Gonzaga and holds an all-time head coaching record of 576-469-2.
The Zags will play their eighth-straight road game to begin the season when they face the Cougars in Provo. After suffering three losses in a season-opening series at UCLA, Gonzaga traveled east to face then-sixth-ranked Vanderbilt and Austin Peay. Gonzaga took one of three games versus the Commodores in a 9-8 decision on Feb. 25, before falling 6-4 at Austin Peay on Monday.
