Sprints, Jumps, Throws travel to New Mexico

BYU track and field's sprints, jumps and throws groups will travel to New Mexico for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Feb. 9-10 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

PROVO, Utah - BYU track and field's sprints, jumps and throws groups will travel to New Mexico for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational on Feb. 9-10 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

"This is a great opportunity for the sprinters and hurdlers to run some personal bests this weekend. Really good facility and good competition combined with some solid preparation the last couple of weeks should pay off for the group. This meet will set us up really well as we prepare for the Big 12 meet in two weeks."

Rankings

In the sprints, jumps and throws groups, Cierra Tidwell Allphin currently ranks No. 4 in the country in the high jump with her clearance of 1.89-meters/6-2.5 at the 2023 BYU December Invitational. The BYU school record-holder ranks No. 2 in the Big 12 conference this season. 

Pole vaulter Rebekah Erikson ranks 14th nationally and fourth in the Big 12 so far this season. The junior holds a mark of 4.33m/14-2.5, also achieved at the 2023 BYU December Invitational. 

Shot put thrower Gretchen Hoekstre currently sits at No. 20 nationally and No. 5 in the Big 12 with her 16.69m/54-9.25 throw at the 2024 BYU Indoor Invitational. 

On the men's side, the 4x400m team of Eli Hazlett, Abram Schaap, Josh Taylor and Jace Jensen ranks 15th nationally and third in the Big 12. The squad ran 3:06.86 at the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson.
