Cougars finish in 12th at FAU Invitational

BYU women’s golf finished 12th at the two-day, 54-hole FAU Invitational at Osprey Point Golf Course on Tuesday. The Cougars carded rounds of 289, 293, and 310 for an 892, 28-over-par total.

BOCA RATON, Florida – BYU women’s golf finished 12th at the two-day, 54-hole FAU Invitational at Osprey Point Golf Course on Tuesday. The Cougars carded rounds of 289, 293, and 310 for an 892, 28-over-par total.

“It was nice to get on some grass and knock the rust off,” said BYU head coach Carrie Roberts. “McCauley started out really well, and Lila battled back really strong in difficult conditions. We struggled with the heavy cross winds coming right out of winter, but we look forward to improving this week.”

South Florida won the tournament at 7-under par, with Denver in second at 3-under and Vanderbilt rounding out the top three at 1-over. 

María José Barragán was the Cougars' low scorer, with rounds of 72, 71, and 78. She finished at 5-over par and tied for 26th.

Lily McCauley started strong on Monday with six birdies in round one to shoot a 4-under-par 68, giving her the lead heading into the second round on Monday afternoon. The sophomore finished the tournament tied for 33rd after rounds of 75 and 80 to finish 7-over par. 

Lila Galeai tied for 40th at 8-over par with rounds of 78, 72 and 74. Alexa Udom (72-75-81–228; +12) and Adeline Anderson (77-78-78–233; +17) rounded out the Cougar squad. Berlin Long, who played as an individual, ended in 71st (79-80-79–238; +22). 

The Cougars will be back in action on Feb. 26- 27 at the Causeway Invitational at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California.
