MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Jordan Tiffany’s 100 fly Big 12 title headlined seven all-conference performances by BYU men’s swimmers and divers as the Big 12 Championships rolled on with Thursday’s competition at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park.

Tiffany took charge of the 100 fly championship race through the flags as he finished at 44.51, over a second in front of runner-up Cole Crane of No. 9 Texas and nearly two seconds over TCU’s Piotr Sadlowski.

The junior from Pleasant Grove, Utah and five-time Big 12 weekly award recipient not only broke his own school record, but surpassed No. 1 Arizona State’s Leon Marchand for eighth nationally in the 100 fly.

Tiffany goes down as BYU’s second Big 12 individual event champion across all sports, following Lexy Halladay-Lowry’s 3000-meters title at the league’s indoor track and field championships on Feb. 24.

Tanner Edwards joined Tiffany with All-Big 12 First Team honors after finishing fourth at 46.71. Tony Puertas tacked on a Second Team honor with an eighth-place spot at 47.35. Tiffany, Edwards and Puertas combined for 80 points to boost BYU’s team score.

The points didn’t stop coming there.

Mickey Strauss posted his second All-Big 12 First Team finish in as many days with fourth-place in the men’s 3-meter final. Strauss recorded a 409.15 and met the U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying standard. The trials will be held June 17-23 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Payton Plumb and Joshua Reed finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 200 free final for two more All-Big 12 Second Team honors. Plumb did so with a personal-best 1:36.09 and tied six-time All-American Arunas Savickas (2000) for third-fastest in program history. The sophomore from St. George, Utah is just months removed from two years of full-time missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Atlanta, Georgia.

Reed also set a personal best at 1:36.51. The true freshman from Newcastle, Australia joined No. 9 Texas’ Nate Germonprez and Camden Taylor as the only freshmen in the 200 free title race.

Tama Tuitama gave BYU one more second team finish with an eighth-place spot in the 400 individual medley final at 3:54.82. Darwin Anderson, Max Cannon and Jack Myers each finished in the top-20 of the event with personal bests.

BYU moves into Friday in third place with 681 points.
