BYU to compete eight divers at Zone Championships

BYU men’s and women’s diving will compete eight athletes at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships March 9 and 11-13 in Flagstaff, Arizona at the Wall Aquatic Center.

PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s and women’s diving will compete eight athletes at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships March 9 and 11-13 in Flagstaff, Arizona at the Wall Aquatic Center.

Event Schedule Saturday events begin at 4:30 p.m. MST. Monday through Wednesday events begin at 11:30 a.m. PDT.

Only team events will be held on Saturday. BYU will be one of eight women’s teams to compete in the diving relay, with competition including Denver, San Diego State, Hawaii, Cal Baptist, UCLA, Utah and host Northern Arizona. 

BYU, UNLV, Cal Baptist, Arizona State and Denver will each compete in the men’s relay.

Alexia Jackson, Brooklyn Larson, Sophia DeBergh and Aubryn Ordyna will each compete for BYU women’s diving. Jackson and Larson will appear in each of the three individual events: 1-meter, 3-meter and Platform. DeBergh will compete on 3-meter and platform while Ordyna will do so on 1-meter. 

Mickey Strauss and Chase Hindmarsh will represent BYU in all three men’s individual events while Haws will do so on 1 and 3-meter, and Davis on platform.

Each day’s competition will begin with preliminary rounds prior to 18 divers advancing to a championship final.

The NCAA Zone E Diving Championships are comprised 129 divers from 25 teams representing five different conferences. The Cougars are the only Big 12 team in Zone E and will face opponents from the Mountain West, Pac-12, WAC and MPSF.

Four other Zone Championships will be held simultaneously in Princeton, New Jersey; Athens, Georgia; Louisville, Kentucky; and Houston, Texas. Divers at each Zone Championship will compete for a spot at the NCAA Division I Men’s Swim and Dive Championships. Women’s nationals will be held March 20-23 in Athens, Georgia while the men’s national title meet will be held March 27-30 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
