LONG BEACH, Calif. - Danny Bryant improved upon his BYU No. 8 all-time mark in the shot put as Lia Katoa put her name on the program's No. 8 mark in the discus Saturday at the Beach Invitational.

Danny Bryant improved upon his BYU No. 8 all-time mark in the shot put as Lia Katoa put her name on the program's No. 8 mark in the discus Saturday at the Beach Invitational.

Bryant earned a new personal best in the shot put with his throw of 19.43-meters/63-9, good for first place in the competition. He has now thrown over 19-meters in three consecutive competitions.
"Today I just wanted to build on what I did on Thursday," said Bryant. "I was excited for this meet because there was some better competition with some high-caliber throwers. I just tried to bring the energy and was able to throw some bombs."

Katoa threw over two and a half meters farther than her previous personal best in the discus to finish ninth in the competition with her throw of 52.04m/170-9.
"Coming into today, I was excited to compete with so many talented girls," said Katoa. "I have been gaining more and more confidence with the discus and so I was excited to see what I could put together today. Hitting 52.04m was a huge breakthrough moment for me. I am so excited to keep pushing that mark out."
Cierra Tidwell Allphin won the women's high jump with a 1.82m/5-11.5 clearance, bumping up her career win total to 35.
On the track, Zoey Bonds and Maddy Eaton earned personal-bests in the hurdles. Bonds broke into 13 seconds for the 100m hurdles, clocking 13.99 as Eaton ran 1:01.81 in the 400m hurdles.
Jumper Maddie Passmore had solid showings in both the long and triple jump leaping 5.92m/19-5.25 and 12.17m/39-11.25, respectively.
BYU track and field will compete next week at the Mt. SAC Relays April 18-20 in Walnut, California as well as the Aggie Invitational April 19-20 in Logan, Utah.
