PROVO, Utah — Two Hailey Morrow home runs paced BYU softball to a 10-4 victory against Idaho State at Gail Miller Field on Tuesday night.

BOX SCORE

The Cougars (23-19, 5-13 Big 12) scored in four of the six innings they batted in, highlighted by a pair of two-run jacks from Hailey Morrow, and another homer by Lily Owens, also a two-run shot.

Morrow’s two home run game is the third contest this season that a BYU hitter has launched a pair. Violet Zavodnik and Huntyr Ava have both done sone earlier in the year.

Player Highlights

Idaho State plated two in the opening inning, earning a walk before a home run to center field.

BYU batted through the order in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs as six Cougars reached base safely in the frame. Morrow, Ailana Agbayani, Maddie Bejarano and Owens each recorded RBI with BYU taking a 4-2 lead.

The Bengals got one back in the top of the third inning, stringing together a double and a single before a Cougar error plated a run, making it 4-3, BYU.

Maddie Udall left off the home half of the third getting hit by a pitch. Three batters later, Hailey Morrow sent a two-run home run to right center for a 6-3 Cougar advantage.

ISU threatened in the fourth inning, loaded the bases on a double, bunt single and walk, but a force out at home, foul out and pop out ended the opportunity.

Added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, BYU saw Bejarano draw a walk before Owens launched a towering two-run shot to left, putting the Cougars in front, 8-3.

BYU tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth as Agbayani drew a four-pitch walk and Morrow sent out her second two-run homer of the game, this one just past the left field wall, for a 10-3 lead.

Idaho State responded in the top of the sixth inning, reaching on a BYU error and placing a double into the left center gap to score one and cut into the Cougar advantage at 10-4.

The Bengals got one runner aboard in the seventh, but a trio of ground outs finished them off and sealed the midweek win.
