IRVING, Texas — BYU softball catcher Hailey Morrow was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Hailey Morrow paced BYU with a .583 batting average and 1.583 slugging percentage on the week as the Cougars went 4-0. Not only did she finish with team highs, Morrow also led the league in batting average, slugging percentage, hits (7), home runs (4), RBI (10), runs (6) and total bases (19).
She led off the week going 3-for-3 with a career-high two home runs and five RBI against Idaho State, before hitting .444 and slugging 1.111 during BYU's three-game series with Iowa State.
Morrow reached based five times in the series, with four hits and a hit-by-pitch, and also tallied five RBI, including a 2-run homer that helped seal the Cougars' first Big 12 series sweep in program history in game three on Saturday.
On the week, Morrow was 7-for-8 in advancing runners, 4-for-6 with runners aboard and 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position. Spending time both behind the dish and at shortstop defensively, the Las Vegas native recorded a perfect fielding percentage on 21 chances.
Morrow’s award is the first weekly conference honor that a BYU player has received this season. It is the second weekly award that Morrow has received after being named the WCC Player of the Year once last season. View the full Big 12 release at the league's website.
The Cougars will be back in action with their home finale this week, a three-game senior weekend series against Baylor, beginning on Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m. MDT.
