Cougs finish season with a 196.500 at NCAA Regionals

The BYU women’s gymnastics team concluded its 2024 season with a third-place finish and final score of 196.500 at the Fayetteville NCAA Regionals Thursday evening.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The BYU women’s gymnastics team concluded its 2024 season with a third-place finish and final score of 196.500 at the Fayetteville NCAA Regionals Thursday evening.

No. 2 LSU and No. 15 Minnesota will move on and compete in Saturday’s final round of regionals, earning scores of 197.800 and 196.950, respectively. Oregon State rounded out the competition with a final score of 196.450.

BYU fifth-year senior Lindsey Hunter-Kempler tied for the third-highest uneven bars score of the evening with a 9.900 on the apparatus.

 

The Cougars opened their evening on the uneven bars. BYU opened its rotation with three 9.775’s from Allix Mason, Ava Jorgensen and Kylie Eaquinto. Hunter-Kempler followed with a season-high score of 9.900. Senior Anna Bramblett anchored for the Cougars with a 9.825 for a team bars score of 49.050.

Standings after rotation one: Minnesota (49.500), LSU (49.375), BYU (49.050) and Oregon State (48.625).

BYU counted five scores above a 9.800 on the balance beam in the second rotation. Mason opened the rotation with a score of 9.800. She was followed by a 9.850 from Mina Margraf and a 9.875 from Eliza Millar-Crossman. Fifth-year senior and 2022 beam All-American Elease Rollins scored a 9.850, followed by a 9.825 from freshman anchor Brynlee Andersen. The Cougars earned a team beam score of 49.200.

Standings after rotation two: LSU (98.750), Minnesota (98.725), BYU (98.250) and Oregon State (98.075).

The Cougars brought the energy with their floor routines in rotation three. Olivia Matern tied her career-high with a 9.850. Heidi Schooley and Kylie Eaquinto also added a pair of 9.850’s. Millar-Crossman and Sophie Dudley added a pair of 9.825’s, while Sydney Benson scored a 9.800 as the Cougars closed out the floor rotation with a team score of 49.200. 

Standings after rotation three: LSU (148.100), Minnesota (147.750), BYU (147.450) and Oregon State (147.150).

Dudley tied her career high on vault with a 9.850 in the final rotation for BYU. Benson and Eaquinto added a pair of 9.850’s of their own as the Cougars finished with a team vault score of 49.050.
