Gustin registers double-double in Women's College All-Star Game

Lauren Gustin scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to secure another double-double as Team Miller fell to Team Lieberman 95-88 in the 2024 Women's College All-Star Game on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland.

CLEVELAND – Lauren Gustin scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to secure another double-double as Team Miller fell to Team Lieberman 95-88 in the 2024 Women's College All-Star Game on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland.

The AP All-America Honorable Mention played 26 minutes going 7-of-14 from the field for 15 points while grabbing 15 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive glass. Gustin also dished two assists in the seven-point loss. 

Gustin opened the scoring for Team Miller with a layup on the first possession of the game. After a score by Team Lieberman, Gustin found teammate Honesty Scott-Grayson for a kick-out triple to take a 5-2 advantage.

With 7:03 left in the opening quarter, Gustin secured a defensive rebound and found Jessika Carter for a jumper to extend the lead to five at 9-4. With 3:56 to go in the quarter, Gustin hit a mid-range jumper to stretch the lead to nine before being subbed out. Team Miller extended its lead to 18 by the end of the first quarter at 31-13.

After leading by as many as 20 with 8:11 left in the half, Team Lieberman scored ten consecutive points to trim the lead to 10 before Gustin settled Team Miller down with a jumper to retake a 12-point lead. At the break, Team Miller led 49-38.

Following a Jaylyn Sherrod offensive board, Gustin scored off the glass to take a 56-43 lead with 7:25 left in the third. By the end of the third quarter, Team Lieberman had trimmed the deficit to six.

In the fourth quarter, Gustin subbed in with 8:33 left and immediately made her presence felt by getting an offensive board before finishing the layup to retake a 10-point lead. Two possessions later, Gustin got back-to-back offensive boards and again finished to give Team Miller an 11-point advantage with 7:13 remaining.

Team Lieberman wouldn’t go away quietly, scoring seven consecutive points to draw within four at 81-77. After the lead was cut to one with 3:28 to go, Quinesha Lockett found Gustin cutting to the basket for a score to take a three-point lead. 

Despite the 15-point effort from Gustin, Team Lieberman scored the final nine points of the game to earn a 95-88 victory.
