HIGHLAND, Utah – BYU men's golfer Angus Klintworth earned medalist honors at the U.S. Open Local Qualifying at Alpine Country Club while Cooper Jones also advanced to final qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Open on Apr. 29. Tyson Shelley qualified with a round of 68 at The Broadlands Golf Course in Broomfield, Colorado on May 9.

Klintworth shot a 4-under-par 68 at Alpine Country Club, while Jones qualified with a 1-under-par, 71.

"Today would have made my younger self rather chuffed, knowing that I am one step closer to the dream,” Klintworth said. "Thinking that there are just two great rounds of golf standing between me and a chance to compete in the U.S. Open has me buzzing."

The final qualifying rounds will be held on either May 20 or June 3, depending on which qualifying sites each player is sent to.

"I’m glad I snuck by today qualifying through a playoff,” Jones said. "This is a cool tournament to qualify for because I’m 36 good holes away from playing in the U.S. Open. I made it to the second stage a few years ago, and it was a good experience. Now I feel like I’m good enough to actually qualify.”

Fellow BYU Cougars Peter Kim and Max Brenchley finished just outside the qualifying number at Alpine, but earned the first and second alternate spots, respectively.
