2024 Men's Volleyball Season Review

The Cougars finished with a 16-9 overall record, concluding their season at 7th in the country in the AVCA coaches poll and 3rd in the MPSF.

PROVO, Utah — The Cougars finished with a 16-9 overall record, concluding their season at 7th in the country in the AVCA coaches poll and 3rd in the MPSF.

Miks Ramanis and Luke Benson were named AVCA Honorable Mention All-Americans. It was Benson’s first recognition and Ramanis’ second.

In total, four Cougars brought home All-MPSF honors. Luke Benson was named to the All-MPSF First Team, Miks Ramanis was on the All-MPSF Second Team, Kupono Browne was on the All-MPSF Second Team and Teon Taylor was given an Honorable Mention.

The team finished with 1,197 kills, totaling 1,128 assists, 798 digs, 137 aces and 199 blocks.

The Cougars outhit their opponents, with a .300 hitting percentage compared to a combined .265 clip.

The Smith Fieldhouse drew in a season-high of 5,024 fans against the no. 1 seeded UCLA on 2/24/24. BYU men’s volleyball averaged the second-highest attendance in the nation, with an average attendance of 3,606 fans in the Smith Fieldhouse per game.

All of BYU’s five losses at home were against teams that reached the 2024 NCAA Tournament: two against the then ranked No. 7 UC Irvine (who reached the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA Tournament), two against No. 2 GCU (MPSF Champions and also reached the semifinals of the 2024 NCAA Tournament), and one loss against the then ranked No. 4 UCLA (2024 National Champs)

BYU defeated No. 1 UCLA in five sets at home on Friday, February 23, the only team to defeat the Bruins during regular-season conference play. UCLA was 11-1 in conference play, falling only to BYU

BYU’s 18-game home win streak was snapped after a 3-1 loss to No. 7 UC Irvine on Friday night at the Smith Fieldhouse. Luke Benson was named AVCA National Player of the Week on March 26, 2024. Luke Benson was also named MPSF Offensive Player of the Week twice: January 8 and March 25. It was the first time a Cougar was named NPOW in over three years, with the last title given to four-time All-American Gabi G. Fernandez on Feb. 9, 2021 when BYU was ranked No. 1 in the country.
