PROVO, Utah - BYU men’s tennis announced the addition of Sacramento State transfer Adam Chodur on Saturday.
“Can't wait for Cougar Nation to see Adam play in Provo," said BYU head coach Zack Warren. "They're going to love his game and what he can do on the court. He is a high-level player and high-character individual who we want as a representative of our university. Adam came highly recommended by top coaches in Southern California and from players on our team. He has a wonderful family who supports his academic and tennis goals and we're excited to welcome all of the Chodur's to BYU."
In two seasons at Sacramento State, the Castaic, California native appeared in 41 matches across both singles and doubles, highlighted by a 16-3 singles mark during the 2023-24 campaign.
"This was an easy decision for me, from the academics to the tennis program," said Chodur. "Can't wait to be part of Cougar Nation."
As a sophomore this past year, Chodur appeared in 23 matches and competed at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles in the majority of the Hornets’ contests. The 2024 All-Big Sky Conference Second Team honoree (singles, doubles) played as high as No. 2 singles on a team that captured Big Sky regular season and tournament titles. Sacramento State earned its first NCAA Tournament bid since 2013 before falling to national runner-up Texas in the opening round.
Chodur seized 13 of last year’s 16 singles wins in straight sets and lost just twice during the final 10 weeks of the season. He posted an 8-7 doubles record at No. 2 doubles while finishing 5-3 in conference play.
As a true freshman in 2022-23, he appeared in 16 singles and 18 doubles matches, going 2-0 at the No. 2 singles spot and playing nearly the whole season at No. 2 doubles. He racked up a Big Sky All-Academic selection and was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
Standing at 6-foot-2, the 2022 Blue Ridge Academy graduate came to Sacramento State as a five-star recruit (tennisrecruiting.net). Chodur was also ranked No. 27 among all high school recruits in the nation and seventh in California, tallying a 9-5 record against fellow five-star recruits and 7-0 mark versus four-stars.
