PROVO, Utah — Five current, former and future BYU swim and dive athletes represented the Cougars at the U.S. Swimming and Diving Olympic Trials June 18-21.

The U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials were held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana while the Allan Jones Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee hosted the Diving Trials.

"We are delighted with the opportunity our BYU family had to compete and showcase their talent at the U.S. Olympic team trials this week," said BYU swim and dive head coach Tamber McAllister. "They stepped up and raced against some of the nation's top athletes under high-pressure conditions. We are proud of their dedication to the sport at such an elite level."

BYU alum Payton Sorenson (2013, 2016-19) advanced to the 50 free semifinals with a 12th-place finish at 22.19 on Thursday. Sorenson fell short of the final as he finished 14th in the semis with a time of 22.24. Despite missing an Olympic bid, Sorenson’s speed was still enough to defeat 2024 NCAA Bronze Medalist Adam Chaney of Florida in the preliminary round.

Current BYU swimmer Jordan Tiffany clocked a long course meters personal best 53.27 to win his heat and finish tied for 32nd out of 61 competitors in the 100 fly prelims. While missing out on the semifinals, Tiffany beat-out Virginia signee Spencer Nicholas, the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruit in the Class of 2024. Seven-time Olympic Gold Medalist Caeleb Dressel won the 100 fly preliminary at 51.14.

Incoming freshman Lucy Warnick represented BYU women’s swimming with a 25th-place finish at 2:32.31 in the women’s 200 breast. While fresh out of high school, Warnick overtook 2024 NCAA qualifier Sabyne Brisson of Georgia Tech to finish 25th. Warnick signed with BYU in November 2023 out of Palo Verde High School and the Sandpipers of Nevada in Las Vegas.

"Both Jordan and Lucy raced hard and are prepared to leverage their experience to lead the team this Fall," McAllister said.

Brad Prolo completed his eligibility at BYU in 2024 and appeared in his second-career U.S. Olympic trials on Tuesday. Prolo recorded a 2:01.92 to finish 49th in the 200 fly prelims. Mickey Strauss was the Cougars’ lone diver to reach Olympic trials in 2024. Strauss scored 157.00 and finished 39th on the men’s 3-meter.
