Path to Paris: Halladay-Lowry and Wayment qualify for Thursday's steeplechase final

EUGENE, Ore. Lexy Halladay-Lowry and alum Courtney Wayment punched their tickets to Thursday's 3000-meter steeplechase final as they placed fourth and eighth overall in the first round Monday evening at Hayward Field.

Lexy Halladay-Lowry placed fourth in the first round with a new personal best of 9:27.36: BYU's No. 2 all-time mark in the event. Halladay-Lowry placed eighth overall at last year's USATF outdoor championships as well as fourth at the 2023 NCAA outdoor championships, both in the steeplechase. 

Courtney Wayment placed eighth in the field with a time of 9:29.66. The BYU alum and professional On runner looks to make her third-straight USA team in the event and improve on her third-place finish at last season's outdoor championships. Wayment is the program's school record-holder in the steeplechase and was a four-time NCAA champion during her collegiate career for the Cougars. 

Alum Whittni Morgan placed fifth in the 5000m final with her season-best of 15:05.53: just over three seconds off of her lifetime best in the event. Morgan won the 2021 NCAA cross country individual championship as the only woman to ever do so in BYU program history. Morgan runs professionally for Adidas.

Senior Cierra Tidwell Allphin placed ninth in the high jump with a 1.83m/6-0 clearance: the 18th six-foot or better clearance of her collegiate career. From Mesa, Arizona, Tidwell Allphin wraps up her time as a Cougar as she hold the program's record in the indoor high jump at 1.89m/6-2.5 and is No. 2 all-time in the outdoor high jump at 1.88m/6-2. She earned six All-America honors (four outdoor and two indoor) during her tenure at BYU. 

Taylor Lovell finished 23rd in the first round of the 3000m steeplechase, running 9:52.78 for the third-fastest time of her career. The freshman from Gilbert, Arizona will not advance to Thursday's final. Despite coming up short of the Olympic Trials final, Lovell concludes a 2024 season in which she earned Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA outdoor championships with a career-best of 9:48.39: the sixth fastest time in BYU history. 

Riley Hunt placed 32nd in the 110m hurdles, clocking 13.98. The senior from Simi Valley, California is BYU's all-time school record-holder in the event with his personal best of 13.70 run at the 2024 NCAA West Preliminary Round on May 22. Hunt broke 14 seconds five times over the course of the 2024 season.
