PROVO, Utah – No. 16 BYU women’s soccer returns to South Field for an in-state battle with No. 19 Utah State on Saturday evening.

The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. MT and will be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. BYU last played at No. 3 UCLA, falling to the Bruins 1-0 in its first loss of the 2024 season.

THE COUGARS. BYU (1-1-1, 0-0 Big 12) played at No. 3 UCLA Wednesday evening, falling to the Bruins 1-0, courtesy of a goal off a corner kick in the sixth minute. The Cougars improved throughout the match, outshooting the Bruins in the second half of the game. BYU’s MacKenzee Vance led the team in shots with four, while goalkeeper Lynette Hernaez tied her career-high saves with seven. With BYU’s N0. 16 national ranking this week, the Cougars have now been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches poll for 20-consecutive polls, dating back to the 2022 season.

THE AGGIES. Utah State (4-0, 0-0 MW) played Big 12 foe Utah on Wednesday evening, beating the Utes 2-0 for its fourth-straight shutout win this season. The Aggies come to Provo with their first national ranking in program history, finding themselves ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches poll this week. Utah State is now 2-0 against Big 12 opponents this season, taking down Utah and Texas Tech. Utah State’s Summer Diamond and Alex Day scored the goals in Wednesday’s match. 

COUGARS VS. AGGIES. The Cougars and Aggies have played 17 times previously, with BYU leading the overall series 14-2-1. The two teams met twice last season, once during the regular season and in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Aggies beat the Cougars 1-0 during the 2023 regular season before BYU took the 2-0 shutout victory against them on their way to the NCAA College Cup. Former BYU players Kendell Petersen and Olivia Wade-Katoa scored the goals in the first-round win.
