BYU swim and dive showcased its 2024-25 team while welcoming over 20 alumni back to the Richards Building Pool on Saturday morning.

PROVO, Utah — BYU swim and dive showcased its 2024-25 team while welcoming over 20 alumni back to the Richards Building Pool on Saturday morning.

“We love having these familiar faces back,” said BYU head swim and dive coach Tamber McAllister. "Our alumni created an amazing legacy at BYU and when they’re around us, our athletes feel that legacy and want to live up to it.”

Current and former divers combined into five teams with trio of freshman Bryce Roper and alums Cody Dreesen and Mickey Strauss taking the top spot.

Men’s Recap
Seven different men’s swimmers won events on Saturday, led by 2024 All-Big 12 performers Jordan Tiffany, Tanner Edwards and Diego Camacho Salgado.

Tiffany recorded his third Richards Building Pool record with a 48.09 in a winning effort in the 100 individual medley. The 2024 Big 12 100 fly champion also won the 100 fly at the Alumni Meet with a time of 46.28.

Edwards registered wins in the 50 fly (21.55) and 50 back (22.18) while Camacho Salgado did so in the 100 free (45.08) and 100 back (50.76).

Tanner Nelson clocked 55.87 to win the 100 breast. The 2022 NCAA Championships qualifier returned in the offseason from a two-year, full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Puebla, Mexico.

True freshman Peter Etzold won the 50 breast at 25.58. Etzold joins the Cougars from Cape Town, South Africa and Vineyard Swimming Club of Cape Town.

Payton Plumb and Darwin Anderson rounded out the men’s individual winners on Saturday in the 200 and 50 free, respectively.

Camacho Salgado, Emerson and Tanner Edwards, and Fletcher Madsen won the 200 medley relay in 1:28.03 while the 200 free relay went to Tiffany, Jack Burke, Emerson Edwards and Joshua Reed in 1:21.25.

Women’s Recap
True freshman Lucy Warnick showed out for the Cougars on Saturday with wins in the 100 individual medley and 100 breast. Warnick registered a pool-record 59.08 in the 100 IM and took the 100 breast in 1:04.88. The 2024 USA Swimming Olympic Trials qualifier and two-time Nevada State Champion comes to BYU from Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas.

Eight more BYU women won events at the Alumni Meet, with four more coming from freshmen or sophomores.

Tatum Cooley finished her freshman campaign strong in 2024 with an All-Big 12 Second Team designation in the 200 free. On Saturday, Cooley clocked 23.61 to win the 50 free.

Sophomore Annie Reichner won the 50 back in 26.87. Reichner was awarded Big 12 Women’s Newcomer of the Week in January for her 50 back performance at the FIU Sprint Invite.

Freshmen Sarah Eliason and Lucy Marek recorded wins in the 50 (25.25) and 100 fly (59.20), respectively.

Eliason comes to BYU from Rockville, Maryland and Richard Montgomery High School where she won 200 IM and 100 fly D.C. Metro Area High School Championships as a senior. Marek, a native of Tucson, Arizona, earned a 2024 Speedo Sectionals qualifying spot prior to arriving at BYU.

Veteran stalwarts Victoria Schreiber (200 free), Halli Williams (100 free), Katya Hulse (100 back) and Mackenzie Miller Lung (50 breast) rounded out the women’s individual winners.

Reichner, Miller Lung, Tahis Ibáñez and Williams took the 200 medley relay at 1:41.04 while the 200 free relay fell to Lily Flint, Ibáñez, Cooley and Williams in 1:35.79.
