Men's tennis heads to ITA Bedford Cup

Eight BYU men's tennis athletes will compete in Colorado this weekend against eleven other schools at the ITA Bedford Cup.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — BYU men’s tennis is headed to Colorado Springs on Sept. 27 and 28 for the ITA Bedford Cup. The team is coming off of a weekend at the Sherwood Cup in Thousand Oaks, California. Four Cougars competed: Redd Owen, Adam Chodur, Hardy Owen and Tygen Goldammer. Those four will be joined by four of their teammates: TJ Wells, David Duong, Otto Schreiner and Alex Edmonston in Colorado. 

The Cougars will compete in singles and doubles play throughout the weekend. The doubles pairings will be Redd Owen and Chodur, Hardy Owen and Goldammer, Edmonston and Duong, and Wells and Schreiner. This is a first-time pairing for Edmonston and Duong.

Event Format: 

Singles: All singles matches will be best of 3 tiebreak sets with full 3rd sets.

Doubles: One tiebreak set to six.

Extra matches are possible on days two and three.

Schools Competing (12): Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Denver, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Northern Arizona, New Mexico State, UNLV, Utah State and Weber State.

Wells and Schreiner are undefeated in doubles play this the season, never dropping a set at the Dar Walters Classic. Edmonston and Duong both come into the weekend undefeated in their singles play from the Dar Walters as well. Redd Owen and Chodur had two doubles wins at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup and four singles points with Chodur going undefeated in singles. Goldammer and Hardy Owen had a very similar result with one doubles win and four singles points, with Hardy Owen going undefeated in singles. The Cougars will look to continue their success through the weekend.
