The BYU men beat Air Force 316.5-90.5 and Colorado Mesa 253.5-146.5, while the BYU women beat Air Force 229-181, CSU Pueblo 343-57 and came up short to Colorado Mesa 208-202 at the 2023 Intermountain Shootout.
MEET FOES
BYU will face Utah, host Colorado Mesa and CSU Pueblo this weekend.
The Cougars and Utes are conference foes for the first time since 2011. In the annual 2024 dual meet, the BYU men beat Utah 181-113 while the BYU women fell 189-112. Utah men’s swim and dive finished in 36th, a spot behind BYU, at the 2024 NCAA Championships. Utah women’s swim and dive took 25th at nationals in 2024 while both Ute men’s and women’s teams finished sixth in the Pac-12.
Colorado Mesa and CSU Pueblo both compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Colorado Mesa women’s swim and dive finished national runner-up at the 2024 NCAA Division II Championships while its men’s team took fifth.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
BYU men’s swim and dive debuted just one spot outside of the top 25 when the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its preseason poll on Sept. 26.
The Cougars garnered seven votes, tying with Purdue and Big 12 counterpart Arizona for the top spot among teams also receiving votes. Arizona State (sixth) is the only Big 12 team ranked ahead of the Cougars and Wildcats. The preseason top 25 poll featured other upcoming BYU opponents with Texas at No. 3 and Texas A&M tied for 12th.
