Swim and Dive faces No. 12/16 Texas A&M, TCU in College Station

PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s and women’s swim and dives takes the road for its second meet of the season in a tri-meet with No. 12/16 Texas A&M and TCU in College Station, Texas Oct. 18-19.

MEET FOES

BYU faces its first ranked foe of the season with the host Aggies ranked No. 12 and No. 16, respectively, in the Collegiate Swim and Dive Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Men’s and Women’s Preseason Polls. The Cougar men entered the season just one spot out of the rankings.

Texas A&M men’s swim and dive finished 2024 ranked 10th nationally and fourth in the SEC. Baylor Nelson (200 and 400 individual medley) and Alex Sanchez (200 breast) return for the Aggies after winning individual SEC titles in 2024.

Texas A&M women’s swim and dive came in 16th in the final 2024 rankings after a third-place finish in the SEC. Aggie diver Joslyn Oakley returns in 2024-25 after winning the SEC 1-meter title a season ago.

Texas A&M opened the season Oct. 11-12 at the SMU Classic in Dallas, Texas.

TCU men’s swim and dive finished runner-up at the 2024 Big 12 Championships. While finishing 28 points ahead of third-place BYU, the Horned Frogs went without an individual conference champion while the Cougars’ Jordan Tiffany took home the 100 fly title. BYU and TCU finished 35th and 50th, respectively, at the 2024 NCAA Championships.

Horned Frog women’s swim and dive finished two spots ahead of BYU, in third at the Big 12 Championships and 65th nationally in 2024.

LAST TIME OUT

The Cougars put on a dominant showing in their season-opening meet at the Intermountain Shootout in Grand Junction, Colorado on Oct. 4-5. BYU men’s swim and dive posted a two-day combined dual meet format score of 268-133 over Utah and 290-120 over host Colorado Mesa. The BYU women won each of their matchups by combined scores of 244-159 (Utah), 274-136 (Colorado Mesa) and 348-53 (CSU Pueblo).

Alexia Jackson Hansen garnered Big 12 Women’s Diver of the Week on Oct. 9 after sweeping both diving events in Grand Junction by a combined 54 points. The Cougars showed depth and young talent at the Intermountain Shootout with event wins from 18 different athletes, nine of which are true freshmen.
