MONTEREY, Calif. – BYU men's golf finished second at the Leadership & Golf Collegiate at Bayonet Golf Course on Wednesday.
Despite leading the competition through 36 holes, the Pacific Tigers (283-297-275–855) shot 13-under in the final round to best BYU(281-288-291–860) by five strokes. Sam Houston (282-293-290–865) claimed the final spot in the top three.
Leading the Cougars, Peter Kim (69-72-71–212) finished tied for third, racking up his second top-10 finish of the 2024-25 season. In his final 18 holes, Kim made three birdies and an eagle to help him move up three spots.
“My mindset was to try and go low and catch the leaders today,” Kim said. “I didn’t play how I wanted to through 12 holes but I hung in there and finished 5-under on my last six holes which helped me before the wind started to pick up.”
Cole Ponich (71-72-70–213) finished tied for fifth. Like Kim, this marks his second top-10 finish on the season. Additionally, Ponich led the field in par-4 scoring by posting a 3.87 average.
Simon Kwon (67-70-78–215) finished the tournament at 1-under overall, putting him in 12th place. Senior Zac Jones (75-73-70–218), who competed as an individual, finished 2-over in a tie for 19th.
Tyson Shelley (74-74-72–220) completed the competition tied for 24th, shooting 4-over on the week. Kevin Wu (79-75-70–224) competed as an individual, wrapping up his week tied for 45th at 8-over. Angus Klintworth (75-78-78–231) finished tied for 69th.
This concludes fall play for the Cougars. After a nearly three-month hiatus, the Cougars will tee it up at their first event of the spring season from Feb. 3-4 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson.
