BYU COUGARS  ||  3-0, 0-0 Big 12 Conference

THE MARK OF A UNIFIED TEAM  ||  After the win over Colorado State on Wednesday, senior guard Lauren Davenport said of her performance, “I only had one shot attempt the whole game, but I don’t care, because we won.” The Cougars share the love. In two of their first three games, three or more players have finished in double figures.

RUN-AND-GUN  ||  With a virtually new roster, the Cougars have retooled their offensive approach, playing a four- and five-out system built on playing with pace, space and casting from behind the arc. The Cougars have attempted 23 3-point field goals per game this season, 3.8 more than their 2023-24 average. Despite the uptick in attempts, the Cougars are shooting the exact same percentage as last year's team – 36.2 percent from behind the arc.

REBOUNDING BY COMMITTEE  ||  Last season, Lauren Gustin accounted for nearly 40 percent of all rebounds (504 of 1,294). This season, Amari Whiting and Marya Hudgins lead BYU in rebounding through two games, but each only accounts for 16.4 percent of the Cougars 116 boards. In the win over CSU, every player that saw the floor recorded at least one rebound with six of nine players grabbing four or more rebounds.

BIG 12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK  ||  Delaney Gibb averaged 19.5 points on 55 percent shooting going 50 percent from behind the arc and 81.3 percent from the charity stripe in two games last week. Her 19.5 points ranked 6th-most among freshmen nationally. She also recorded 5.5 assists with a 1.8:1 assist-to-turnover ratio along with 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and a block en route to freshman of the week honors.

IDAHO STATE BENGALS  ||  1-2, 0-0 Big Sky

CARLSON'S COOKING  ||  Piper Carlson is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Idaho State squad that comes into Saturday’s game at 1-2 after falling to Cal and San Diego State in the last two games. The 6-foot-1 sophomore has scored 11.0 points and grabbed 7.0 rebounds per game over the first three games this season. In her last outing against the Aztecs, Carlson scored a career-high 16 points on 8-of-12 from the field and pulled down nine boards in the 62-51 loss at Viejas Arena.

STOPPING SPINK  ||  Kacey Spink is only averaging 3.7 points in the first three games but was a problem against the Cougars last season. In the game at BYU last year, Spink scored 15 points on an efficient 6-of-12 shooting in the Bengals overtime loss last season. The now-junior also recorded six rebounds, an assist and a steal in the game in Provo. Spink is the second-leading rebounder for ISU at 5.7 per game while also dishing 2.3 assists and swiping 1.3 steals per game.

THREE-HEADED MONSTER  ||  Carlson leads the three-headed scoring machine of Nika Lokica and Halle Wright who each are averaging double-figure scoring three games in. Lokica and Wright each notch 10 points per game on 52.9 and 32.3 percent shooting, respectively.

Lokica is a 5-foot-10 guard from Croatia who averages 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.5 blocks and 0.5 steals on the season.  Wright is a 6-foot junior forward who grabs 5.0 rebounds per contest along with 1.3 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.
