MOUNTAIN SWING || Saturday’s game against the Cowgirls will be the first of two consecutive home games against opponents from the Mountain West Conference. The Cougars host the Colorado State Rams on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
DELANEY'S DREAM DEBUT || The highly-touted freshman burst onto the scene with an 18-point, five-assist performance in her first as a Cougar on Saturday evening. Gibb went 4-8 from the floor while registering two blocks and a steal in the win.
SHE WAS NUMBER 1 || Amari Whiting had a historic freshman season a year ago and is the Cougars’ returning leader in points (10.6), rebounds (4.9), assists (3.73) and steals (1.52) going into the 2024-25 season.
In BYU’s upset of No. 18 Baylor, Whiting flirted with the first triple-double in BYU women’s basketball history with 14 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.
SHARING THE ROCK || The Cougars assisted on 16-of-25 (.640) made field goals and had three players score in double figures in game one. This continues the trend of sharing the love as BYU recorded 504 assists on 796 (.636) made field goals last season. BYU had three or more players score in double figures in 24 of 33 contests.

WYOMING COWGIRLS || 0-1, 0-0 Mountain West
BACK-TO-BACK BIG 12 OPPONENTS || With Colorado visiting Laramie for Wyoming’s season opener, the Cowgirls will play consecutive games against teams from the Big 12 Conference to open the 2024-25 campaign.
CO-CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE YEAR || Allyson Fertig was named the Preseason Mountain West Co-Player of the Year and was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Award Watchlist. She was named to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award Watchlist as well.
Fertig was the leading scorer for the Cowgirls in their season-opening loss to Colorado with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. She also led the team with two blocks and grabbed five rebounds. Fertig became the 28th member of Wyoming’s 1,000-Point Club on January 20 of last season in Wyoming’s 67-63 win over Colorado State.
PICK POCKET MELLEMA || Emily Mellema was named to the MWC All-Defensive Team, marking the fourth-straight season a Cowgirl has been named to the team. She opened the season with a four-steal performance against the Buffaloes while also recording eight points, five rebounds, two assists and a block.
STARTING FIVE DISPARITY || Saturday’s starting five will look extremely different from the matchup in Laramie a year ago.
Wyoming returns all five starters from the 2023 matchup, in which the Cowgirls won 86-74. Tess Barnes, Fertig, Mellema, Malene Pederson and Ola Ustowska combined for 55 points on 50-percent shooting, 16 rebounds, 10 assists, two blocks and a steal in the win over the Cougars.
Whiting is the only returning Cougar that started a year ago against Wyoming. The then-freshman scored 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting, going 2-for-3 from behind the arc. Whiting also grabbed three boards, four assists, a steal and a block in the loss.
