PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s and women’s swimming returns to action in a dual meet with Big 12 foe Arizona at Hillendbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson Dec. 20-21.

MEET FOE
Arizona men’s swimming has wins over Grand Canyon and Northern Arizona along with losses to No. 2 Arizona State, Utah and No. 20 USC. The Wildcat women narrowly defeated Utah 151-149 and have wins over the Lopes and Lumberjacks despite losses to No. 13 Arizona State, No. 16 USC and UCLA.

Eleven Arizona men’s individual or relay performances rank top-50 nationally. The Wildcats’ men’s 400 free relay squad ranks ninth at 2:48.65. Arizona’s Haakon Naughton, Ralph Daleiden and Tomas Lukminas each hold top 15 times in the 100 fly (Naughton) and 200 free.

Wildcat women’s swimming brings seven top 50 performances into the weekend’s dual meet, including the nation’s 18th-ranked 200 free relay time of 1:28.65.

Arizona men’s swimming finished 2024 ranked No. 22 after a 28th-place finish at NCAA Championships and fourth in the Pac-12. The Wildcat men were tied with BYU as the top teams also receiving votes in the CSCAA’s Preseason Top 25. Arizona has not received votes in the poll since.

A season ago, Arizona women’s swimming took 49th at NCAA Championships and seventh in the Pac-12.

LAST TIME OUT
BYU men’s and women’s swimming recorded a combined 104 collegiate-best times during its midseason meet at the Texas Invitational Nov. 20-22. The Cougars also achieved a combined 26 program top-10 times headlined by Mackenzie Miller Lung’s school record-breaking 2:09.61 in the women’s 200 breast.

The Texas Invitational marked BYU’s toughest competition faced to this point of the season as it matched up against swimmers from ranked Texas, Stanford, Wisconsin and USC teams.

RANKINGS REVIEW
BYU men’s swimming continues to hover just outside the top 25. The Cougars received seven votes to land two spots outside the CSCAA’ latest poll. Harvard came in just ahead of BYU with nine votes. Princeton and Florida State followed in 24th and 25th, respectively. The Cougars’ seven votes came in ahead of SMU, Kentucky and Penn State.

Miller Lung is the top nationally ranked individual from BYU. The junior from Clovis, California stands at No. 23 nationally in the 200 breast after her school-record performance in Austin on Nov. 22.

BYU men’s swimming’s 400 medley, 200 free, 200 medley and 400 free relay squads each head into Tucson with top-50 nationally ranked times as well.
